Ten Reasons to Homeschool.pdf
Home schooling has been utilized for thousands of years. It has taken many forms, from the apprenticeship programs of the Ancient world to the "primer" programs of the colonial period.  Home schooling has long existed as a way to pass on skills and values, such as bravery, patriotism, honesty, self reliance, etc., from parent to child, as well as to provide a quality education. Many Americans have benefited from a home education, including Presidents George Washington, James Madison, John Quincy Adams, and Abraham Lincoln. People have chosen home schooling for a variety of reasons.  Many people choose home schooling for the freedom to pass on religious or personal beliefs. Some people believe that they are personally responsible to raise and educate their children. Others feel that home schooling provides a safe environment free from negative socialization, such as school violence, rampant sex, illegal drugs, etc.  The benefits of home schooling are becoming more apparent.
Developmental problems, including hyperactivity and near sightedness, are greatly reduced.  Homeschoolers have lower problem behavior scores and significantly higher self concepts.  Children keep their love of learning, get a better, less fractured education, learn to develop real relationships with the adults around them, and don't learn to taunt or fear each other.  The parents and children get to know each other as people, even as friends. The best evidence of home schooling success is the students themselves.  Home school students scored at the eighty seventh percentile on standardized achievement tests.  They averaged 37% above the national norm.  "School success is the most important factor that helps...youth overcome conditions that drag them down." (Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention)  "The kinds of crimes (students) commit are more serious in nature, and offenders are getting younger and younger.  ...the viciousness and casualness of the crimes youths commit today (are) an indication that civil codes of behavior based on respect for life the bedrock of a society may well be weakening." (The Education Digest, 2/98)

31% of teachers cite physical conflicts among students and verbal abuse of teachers as a major problem.
20.3% of secondary teachers cite student possession of weapons as a serious problem.
41% of high school students said they had seen drugs sold at their school.
50% of high school students say that their schools fail to challenge them to do their best.
1 in 20 high school students carries a firearm at one time or another.
1/3 of those students who own handguns reported that they have fired at someone.
42% of junior high students carry knives to school
25% of junior high males carry a gun to school

Violence in and around schools reduce the likelihood of graduation by 5.1 percentage points.  It also lowers the likelihood a student will attend college by 6.9 percent. Research at the University of Minnesota says that parental expectation, the more teenagers feel loved by their parents and comfortable in their school, the less likely they are to have early sexual activity, smoke, abuse alcohol or drugs, or commit violence or suicide.

Home schooling is for parents who feel they have a responsibility to do more than drop off their children at a social babysitter.  These parents are concerned that their children excel academically, not just survive.  They desire that their children have the academic equipment to be leaders, not followers.  They want their children to morally, academically, and physically excel.  They desire to remove their children from a morally bankrupt jungle by taking ownership of their child’s education and moral future.  These parents have the courage to take risks, to be misunderstood if necessary. They believe their children are worth great effort.  They simply cannot bear to look 10 years down the road and wish they had done something.  For them the shame of that alternative is too great a specter to gaze upon.  They must do something.  They must do it now.  These parents are the heroes of the future.

Why should I home school?
To end morally bankrupt non value based education.

Is it legal?
Yes. Home schooling is legal in all fifty states.

How soon can I start?
Schooling can begin within 2-4 weeks after enrollment

What about graduation?
We can provide your child with a full graduation ceremony.

Can they go to college?
Yes. We help document the entire schooling process and provide transcripts.

What will my child be missing?
Your child may not be able to participate in interscholastic sports; however, these can be made up with community sports or other sport leagues.

How do I know if the teaching is effective?
Standardized tests will allow you to compare your child to the national norm.

What about lack of socialization?
Define the context in which you fear there may be isolation. Is the concern that somehow if you homeschool you're never going to let your kids go out and play with the neighbors, or attend Girl Scouts, or take skating lessons? Is it that somehow you won't be part of the community, won't go to church or summer camp or museums or the mall?
